Greece: Worrying Numbers of Early Alcohol Use Onset of Children

A new study by the University of Attica in Greece has found that four in ten adolescents have tried alcohol before the age of 15. These findings show that there is a worrying level of early initiation of alcohol use among Greek children. Nevertheless, alcohol legislation in Greece remains inadequate. &nbsp;

USA and COVID-19: Alcohol Use Skyrockets during Pandemic

A new study published in the JAMA Network Open has found that alcohol use has increased in the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic comparative to 2019. Increased alcohol use adds to the already existing heavy alcohol burden in the country and is likely to lead to long-term alcohol harm lasting longer than the pandemic itself.

Poland: 2019 Saw Highest Alcohol Use in Three Decades

According to the State Agency for the Prevention of Alcohol-Related Problems (PARPA), alcohol consumption increased by 0.23 litres per capita in 2019 compared to 2018. The increase brought the Polish alcohol consumption to 9.78 litres of pure alcohol per person, the highest it has been since 1993.

Workshop on the evaluation of scale-up of health systems interventions: what and how? Lessons for scale-up projects

Two GACD funded projects supported in the 2018 GACD Scale Up Call are leading a workshop event at the upcoming World Congress on Public Health 2020 (12-16 October). The two projects SCUBY and SUNI-SEA are investigating scale up of diabetes and hypertension care and scaling up NCD interventions in South-East Asia, respectively. Read more here.
