HLM4 Political Declaration on NCDs and Mental Health adopted

On 15 December, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the political declaration of the fourth high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases and the promotion of mental health and well-being.

The resolution was adopted with broad Member State support (175 in favour, 2 against, 1 abstention). The adoption of the political declaration follows earlier negotiations at the United Nations high-level meeting on the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases and the promotion of mental health and well-being in September, and multiple preparatory and advocacy efforts throughout the year.

The WHO Global Coordination Mechanism on NCDs and its Participants contributed through the Second General Meeting of the GCM in April and the WHO Symposium on Meaningful Engagement of people living with NCDs, mental health and neurological conditions, as well as the 4th Fourth Multistakeholder Gathering and a co-developed issue brief series on advancing multisectoral and multistakeholder actions on noncommunicable diseases: thematic issue briefs.
