Armenia STEPS Survey 2016: Prevalence of Noncommunicable Disease Risk Factors

The Armenia STEPS Survey 2016 is the country's first national survey on noncommunicable disease (NCD) risk factors, conducted using the WHO STEPwise approach. Covering adults aged 18–69, the survey assessed both behavioral and biological risk factors for NCDs and highlighted gender, age, and urban–rural differences.

Key findings include:

• 27.9% current smokers
• 34.4% used alcohol in the last 30 days
• 76% consumed fewer than five servings of fruits and vegetables daily
• 21.3% were physically inactive
• 48% were overweight; 19.5% obese
• 37.8% had raised blood pressure; 73.2% untreated
• 5.5% had impaired glucose tolerance
• 23.5% had raised cholesterol
• only 7% had none of the five major NCD risk factors

This report aims to support public health planning, NCD policy monitoring, and advocacy for healthier lifestyles.
